HourTime Show Watch Podcast Episode 175: Oh Wait, Now We're Talking About Omega HourTime Show

I’ve not spend enough time together with tonneau watches to really explain the science of what makes an ideal shape and sporting experience. To say that it is all about proportions is too straightforward. In this instance, I believe that the relatively flat top and base, rather conventional and stubby lugs, tall and horizontal sides with coined edges, alongside the really round dial are what make this view work. The Breguet Heritage 5410 is produced in either an 18k rose gold and 18k white gold case. For my hands on demonstration I’m wearing the 18k white gold version. The case dimensions actually sound modest, but as you can see, it does not wear that modestly given the case thickness. The Breguet Heritage 5410 is 35mm wide, 42mm tall lug to lug, and 12.9mm thick. It’s 30 meters of water resistance. This watch might look a little on the small side for quite massive wrists, but also for a small to medium wrist like mine, it appears really nice. Moreover, the relatively thick and extremely polished bezel adds welcome visual mass that I believe helps the total shape. You can see that the full case is also curved, which allows it to wear very comfortably. The sapphire crystal can also be curved, but not more so than the case itself, which preserves a sense of visual harmony. While there are additional well-done tonneau-shaped cases out there which thrive via distinct designs, Breguet gets tonneau right in their own different way. Naturally, it is not a design for everyone, but with something that visually identifying you definitely aren’t likely to make all viewers happy. The most intriguing portion of the Breguet Heritage 5410 is the dial, of course. Complication-wise the timepiece is rather easy, offering the time with a subsidiary seconds dial and a big date indicator window. Where things get interesting is that the particular style of this Roman numeral hour markers, in addition to the in-house created guilloche-machine engraving which is once again superb. The dial itself is made from 18k gold, which is tender and easy to cut, and then silvered once it is done.
